New investments in local seniors’ organizations are helping seniors become more active and engaged in our communities. The New Horizons for Seniors Program is helping with social programming, physical and mental health initiatives, and upgrades to infrastructure, among other things.

More than 3,700 community-based projects have been funded through the program since 2016, including many here in our community.

Local groups have benefited from grants of up to $25,000 through this important program, including The Eastern Shore Sunshine Club, Sonora Community Club, Garden of Eden Community Club, St. Joseph’s Lakeside Community Centre, Club 60 in Antigonish, Stillwater Community Club, Springville Presbyterian Church Hall, Harbour Lites and The Old School Community Gathering Place in Musquodoboit Harbour, Port Bickerton Community Club, St. Bee’s Church, Westville Heritage Society, Holy Name Church Hall, Arts Health Antigonish, Goshen Community and Recreation Centre,  and many more. The groups have received funding for programs, renovations, new equipment, accessibility improvements, and special events.  By supporting our community facilities that serve seniors, we are supporting their ability to participate fully in the community.

This program has been so successful that we have allocated an additional $100 million to help make our communities more age-friendly and engaging for local seniors.
